About Us
Background
Research in pediatric radiology is limited by small sample sizes and the relative rarity of disease. Multi-institutional research studies are necessary to draw meaningful conclusions that will improve children’s health and advance the field of pediatric radiology. However, multi-institutional imaging-based research studies are logistically challenging to set up and manage. The required administrative burden can be especially cumbersome on institutions with limited research resources and can ultimately stall or prevent research.
Our Goals
To improve and facilitate pediatric radiology research by creating an accessible platform for multi-institutional pediatric imaging research governed by a single IRB (sIRB) with standing data-sharing agreements and organized processes for study conduct and participation.
Our Plan
Create an imaging research consortium that enables research collaboration between pediatric radiologists across institutions. This consortium will leverage the following:
1
〰️
1 〰️
A standing single-IRB (S-IRB) and data use agreements (DUA) between CCHMC (as data coordinating center) and participating institutions (Members) for retrospective imaging studies.
2
〰️
2 〰️
Governance through a Steering Committee so that the pediatric radiology community can manage the consortium and its output according to the principles of inclusiveness, prioritization, facilitation, equity, and accountability.
3
〰️
3 〰️
A cloud-based research platform to collect and share de-identified patient images and data.
4
〰️
4 〰️
Secure platforms for collecting clinical data - case report forms in the cloud-based research platform or REDcap databases located at CCHMC or other partner institutions.
